1. Web hosting
accounts sole purposes is to host web sites and e-mail ONLY.
Any account found running a game server, an IRC
server, or an IRC bot, will be terminated
immediately. Any fees paid will be forfeited.
2. The person
that signs up for an account is the person responsible for it. If
you no longer wish to be responsible for payments, contact Shoreline Web Developers
immediately. Accounts are NOT transferable without specific
permission from Shoreline Web Developers.
3. Any account
which exceeds its data transfer level, will be automatically upgraded
to the appropriate bandwidth level. Thus, when an account's disk space
usage full, uploading will simply fail to work until
the user upgrades their account level.
Similarly,
accounts which place a great level of stress on a machine through
excessive CPU usage will be asked to upgrade to a higher level package.
We reserve the right to kill any process which uses considerable
amounts of CPU time and RAM. Refusal to upgrade or to bring system
usage within account parameters may result in the termination of
the offending account.
4. Accounts
cannot be used for any of the following purposes: Spamming
(sending UCE - unsolicited commercial e-mail), supporting spam
(such as selling e-mail harvesting software or mass-emailing services),
software piracy, distribution of illegal pornography,
hacking, or attempting to use machine or network resources
for unlawful purposes. Any account violating these rules
will be terminated immediately and no refunds will be issued. Accounts
used for spam will be charged $100 per complaint received plus any
expenses incurred in cleaning up after the spam.
5. Shoreline
Web Developers will not be held responsible for any content on its client's
sites which others may find offensive.
6. For new
clients only, accounts canceled within the first 30 days of service
will receive a full refund. Refunds will be made in the same form
as the original payment. You must explicitly notify us via E-MAIL
(phone requests will not be accepted without credit card verification for your own protection)
if you wish to cancel your account. Accounts are still considered
active and will be charged even if you do not log in and use them.
Your billing period starts the day your account is activated, whether
or not you are actively publicizing a site.
7. Personal
or business checks are accepted by mail. A returned check will incur
a $25 service charge, and subsequent payments must be made by money
order.
8. You are
responsible for keeping Shoreline Web Developers informed of any changes
to your name, mailing address, phone number, or e-mail address.
9. Reactivation
of a suspended account will incur a $25 fee.
10. General
system support is available free of charge by telephone or e-mail.
Support for Advanced UNIX topics, and HTML, when available, will
incur a charge of $65 and $50 per hour, respectively.
11. If you
do not see a utility or program on our servers that you require,
please inquire about it. We can obtain and install nearly any utility
that you may need. However, there may be circumstances where we
cannot fulfill every request or where we must charge a fee for the
service.
12. All Shoreline
Web Developers non-dedicated servers run the Slackware distribution
of Linux, with a recent kernel version. Please do not ask for installs
of other operating systems (including, but not limited to, Red Hat
Linux) unless you are paying for a dedicated server.
13. Services
are provided on an 'as is' basis. Shoreline Web Developers cannot and will
not be held liable for any damages that may occur, whether indirect,
incidental, or consequential that may arise out of use of Shoreline
Web Developers' services. Please remember to always keep a local backup
copy of your work on your own personal computer.
14. Shoreline
Web Developers reserves the right to alter, amend, or change these policies
at any time. All accounts are required to comply with any changes
made to these policies while their accounts are active. Notification
of any major changes to the policies will be e-mailed to all accounts.
bot
(short for "robot") is a program that operates as an agent for a
user or another program or simulates a human activity. On the Internet,
the most ubiquitous bots are the programs, also called spider or
crawler, that access Web sites and gather their content for search
engine indexes.
Internet
Relay Chat (IRC) is a system for chatting that involves a set
of rules and conventions and client/server software. On the Web,
certain sites such as Talk City or IRC networks such as the Undernet
provide server and help you download an IRC client to your PC. Talk
City also offers an IRC client applet that it downloads for you
as part of their home page so that you can start chatting right
away.
